LeRoy Golman

GOLMAN, LeRoy Harvey
Passed away peacefully from cancer at his home In Los Angeles on January 19, 2010. LeRoy was born February 17, 1924, in Chicago and moved to Detroit at a young age. At Central High School, he was an Eagle Scout and Cadet Lt. Colonel in the ROTC. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 while attending the University of Michigan, and was called up to active duty in 1943. During WWII, he served in the infantry in Europe and returned in 1945, eventually retiring as a Major in the National Guard Reserves in 1965.

After graduating from Wayne State University in Detroit with a B.S. in Business Administration and attaining his CPA license, LeRoy began a successful 60-year
career. Starting with Bernstein & Bernstein, CPA’s, he then formed his own partnership, Goldman and Golman, with Albert Goldman, his brother-in-law, in 1951. Shortly after the founding of Kaufman and Broad Building Co. in 1960, LeRoy accepted the positions of secretary and treasurer. Respected for his strong work ethic and practice of sound accounting principles, he was an integral part of K & B’s financial and operating history. With the company, LeRoy moved his family to Phoenix in 1962 and then to Los Angeles in 1964. He retired in 1987 after also serving on the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee, and as senior VP and executive VP.

LeRoy was a devoted family man, who enjoyed spending time with his loving wife of 56 years, Anne, and their children, Janet, David and Richard. He had a passion for sailing on his yacht “Sea Spirit” and was a talented photographer and artist. He was also very generous with his time, devoting many hours to the Boy Scouts as a leader of his sons’ troops and counselor. He also loved to travel worldwide, especially on cruises.

Known for his quiet discipline, steadfast nature and as mentor to many, LeRoy will be deeply missed, but will always live in our hearts. He is survived by his daughter Janet (Bradley) Lieber and son David (Denise) Golman; loving grandchildren Dana and Ryan Lieber, Jessica and Matthew Golman; brother Alvin (Sheila) Golman, brother-in-law Herbert Goldman, sisters-in-law Beatrice Golman, Dianne Goldman, Allene Goldman, and many adoring nieces, nephews and cousins. LeRoy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Beatrice and Jake Golman, step-mother Rose Golman, cherished wife and son, Anne and Richard Golman, brother Sanford Golman, sister Sherre Gladstone and brother-in-law Albert Goldman.

The family would like to thank LeRoy’s caregivers, Indira Thompson, Sharmine Wade, Gwen Henry, and Dorla Usher, for their loving care.
