| The Kamenir Chapel at Mount Sinai, Simi Valley |
Among the foothills above Simi Valley, carved out of the rocky canyons of a centuries-old Western landscape, is Mount Sinai’s awe-inspiring new 160-acre Memorial Park, designed to serve the needs of the Jewish community for many generations to come. Harmonizing with its rustic surroundings, the Park's lush green valleys and glens, streams and fountains and color-kissed gardens and pathways soften craggy primal vistas. The award-winning, contemporary style Kamenir Chapel, hewed from Jerusalem stone brought from Israel, accents the landscape. This sunlit chapel enveloped in warm woods and embellished by Ruth Merritt's facet glass artwork of the Seven Days of Creation, is a haven of tranquil beauty appropriate to reflection on and remembrance of loved ones. The Simi Valley Park embodies ancient traditions in new concepts like The Caves of Abraham, an innovative, modern day interpretation of Biblical cave burials in accord with Halachic (Jewish Law) practice. There are also traditional individual and companion ground spaces and gardens for couples and families in sections throughout the Park.
